Jean-Claude Van Damme may have shown off some killer thigh strength in his viral Volvo splits video, but Chuck Norris, the “Walker, Texas Ranger” star appears in a spoof video put together by Hungarian creative agency Delov Digital.

Delov Digital’s Christmas card is a CGI video of Chuck Norris doing a split between two planes.

The USS Arizona Memorial – Oahu, Hawaii

arizonamemorial1

USS Arizona (BB-39) was launched on June 19, 1915

72 years ago Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii and launched the United States into World War II. The morning air assault on U.S. military installations in Hawaii resulted in the deaths of 2,402 Americans; another 1,282 were wounded. All eight U.S. Navy battleships on the base were damaged, and four of them sank. One of the sunken battleships, the USS Arizona, is now the site of a memorial commemorating the attacks.

Do you think English is easy?

From A Retired School Teacher

Can you read this right the first time?
  1. The bandage was wound around the wound.

  2. The farm was used to produce produce.

  3. The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

  4. We must polish the Polish furniture.

  5. He could lead if he would get the lead out.

  6. The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

  7. Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was  time to present the present.

  8. A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.

  9. When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10. I did not object to the object.

11. The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12. There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

13. They were too close to the door to close it.

14. The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15. A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

16. To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

17. The wind was too strong to wind the sail.

18. Upon seeing the tear in the painting, I shed a tear.

19. I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

20. How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Let’s face it – English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren’t invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat? We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce and hammers don’t ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn’t the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, two geese. So one moose, two meese? One index, two indices? Doesn’t it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn’t preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

PS. – Why doesn’t ‘Buick’ rhyme with ‘quick’?

Fly Geyser: A Man Made Geyser in Nevada

Fly Geyser is a very little known tourist attraction, even to Nevada residents. It is located right near the edge of Fly Reservoir and is only about 5 feet high, 12 feet if you count the mound on which it sits. The Geyser is not an entirely natural phenomenon, and was accidentally created in 1916 during the drilling of a well. The well functioned normally for several decades, but then in the 1960s geothermal heated water found a weak spot in the wall and began escaping to the surface. Dissolved minerals started rising and piling up, creating the mount on which the geyser sits, offering an eerie, out-of-this-world sight. The mound is still growing to date.

Fly Geyser is located on the private Fly Ranch currently owned by Todd Jaksick and is accessible only by a small private dirt road. The geyser is protected from trespassers by a high fence and a locked gate with several metal spokes on the top, but despite the booby traps, many people still prefer to jump the fence to get a better look. Several organizations have tried to purchase the land for conservation, and make it open to the public, but have been denied.

Fly Geyser is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) north of Gerlach, in Washoe County, Nevada, less than a mile from State Route 34. The Geyser is about 1/3 mile from the road and is large enough to be seen from the road.

Noah’s Ark in Hong Kong

This is neat…

Billionaire brothers build a life-size replica of Noah’s Ark in Hong Kong.

Having been built, according to the Bible, thousands of years ago, Noah’s Ark has only ever existed in peoples’ imaginations.

But now a group of architects who pondered what the Biblical vessel looked like have turned their dreams into reality by constructing a Noah’s Ark replica, complete with animals.

Thomas, Walter and Raymond’s land-bound Ark certainly has dimensions on a Biblical scale, measuring a massive 450 feet long and 75 feet wide.

The imaginative trio even attempted to give the giant boat an air of authenticity by placing 67 pairs of fiberglass animals at the entrance, just like the pairs of creatures saved from the Great Flood by Noah in the Bible tale.

The creationist-inspired vessel forms part of a theme park near Hong Kong which was inspired by a young girl’s scrawled drawing of the mammoth boat.

Matthew Pine, manager of Noah’s Ark Theme Park, said: “They had a vision to do something remarkable, something outstanding. They came up with many ideas. Some of them were really outrageous. But then they came across this girl’s drawing, and knew it would be something do-able that captured imaginations. So they hired architects and engineers to create the replica of Noah’s Ark.”

Matthew added: “The reason we chose that moment in the Bible’s story is because this is the message we want to bring to Hong Kong, to China, to the world.”

In our lives we always face floods, we will face trials, we will face difficulties. Hopefully Noah’s Ark will inspire people to pass through those troubles as Noah did in his day.”

The Noah’s Ark Theme Park, sits in front of the Tsing Ma Bridge in Hong Kong and is popular among tourists.

Architects appear to have used some artistic license in parts of the Ark – for instance including double-glazed windows, a fine dining restaurant and luxurious hotel-style rooms.

Inside, real-life exotic animals can be found – including a nautilus, a toucan and reams of fish.

The brothers who built the Ark, which opened in May 2009, 17 years after plans were first made for the enormous structure, claim it is the only full-scale version in the world.

The Noah’s Ark Theme Park is now run by Christian organizations, who use it to promote peace and unity.
